When I first walked into Thom Rutledge's office, I knew he was different from other psychotherapists. Not only did he introduce me to a unique technique to fight my eating disorder that offered real hope, but he also had a sense of humor that lifted my spirits immediately and inspired me to push further along the road to recovery than ever before. With Thom's guidance and support all along the way, I was able to find a life without Ed. I was even able to write the book, Life Without Ed, in which he contributed the foreword and therapeutic exercises.

Before I wrote Life Without Ed, I read Thom's book, Embracing Fear: How to Turn What Scares Us into Our Greatest Gift (Harper Collins). Just as Thom's amazing work with me in therapy truly altered my life, Embracing Fear has also had a life-changing effect. Thom's words provided me with a new courage that I carry with me daily. Of course, his sense of humor and optimism emanate throughout the book as well. When Thom is around, laughter is expected and hope can be guaranteed.
